[Mp4-tech] H.263 Non-standard Resolution

The H.263 standard specifies the video bitstream syntax and decoding
semantics. MOV is a container format. A compliant H.263 decoder should
follow the H.263 standard and not the MOV format. This is clear and
unambiguous. The question about what resolution a player application should
display is up for debate.

Thanks Mario.

Yes. It should move to the nearest multiple of 16. However, my basic doubt
is w.r.t. the resolution given in the container vs. the resolution in the
bitstream. Is there a convention as to what should override the other in
case of a conflict?

Mohit

Hi, I suppose that your decoder accepts only multiple of 16 video format, so
the decoder will be bring 240x180 near the first integer multiple of 16, for

example 240x192

Subject: [Mp4-tech] H.263 Non-standard Resolution

Hi All,

Apologies if this is a dumb question but I could not find any discussion on
this anywhere. I would be grateful if you could spare a few minutes to help
me with this.

I have a H263 video contained in a MOV file:

*	The resolution specified in the H.263 bitstream is 352x288 (CIF)
*	The resolution specified in the MOV header is 240x180

What is the desired decoder behaviour? Which of the above over-rides the
other?

Any pointers to a standard/acceptable-practice would be really helpful.

thanks and regards
Mohit Garg
